tubes ain't perfect

daft punk's "aerodynamic" is, as you of course know, an example of "perfect music" -- a song that could not be made better in any way, lifts the spirit when listened to, and just generally kicks a lot of ass all over town. it's hard to get better than "aerodynamic" without bringing out the heavy beethoven guns.

best of all, the song is constructed such that it can be looped. hooray for looping!

but alas, my tubes lack the bass slam to make it work. i do have another set of tubes that i have not tried, a set of tubes that sounded more "solid statey" to me and thus might make up for this deficiency, but instead of trying them, i plugged the cans straight into the lavry and experienced the music as it should be experienced.

even more alarming, though, was the failure of the akg's to produce the proper thump on any hardware. i'm listening on the grados! oh my!

...

also, i have discovered new layers of sound in this track. yup, just when i thought i couldn't know it any better.

...

like many things, "aerodynamic" achieves greatness through simplicity. they've trimmed all the fat. the song is: a kickass thumping beat, and a kickass guitar riff. that is all. often it is one or the other. purity and restraint of sound, two great flavors that go great together.

or something.

...

like a whiskey old fashioned: why mess things up by adding more stuff?
