how it is
question: how many dayhikes have i been on?
answer: on the order of 100, all within the last 1.5 years.
followup question: how many times have i been on a dayhike that spanned more than 12 miles?
followup answer: on the order of 10 times.
pointed question: on how many of those hikes was 203-to-be not present?
pointed answer: exactly 0.
conclusion: should be obvious.
...
for them's what aren't so great at drawing their own conclusions, here's one to try on: i'm a stronger hiker when 203 is present.
maybe it has to do with some hormone-fueled need to impress girls. who knows? facts are facts, and the facts show that i tend(ed) to hike longer and harder when 203(-to-be) is (was) present.
i hoke this weekend at altitude (anything above 0 is "at altitude" for a sealevel-boy like me) with a sinus infection for a measly peasly 5 or so miles, but that was still 5 or so miles more than i woulda hoke by myself on a day like that.
my mind, like all human minds, likes to find patterns. i think there's an obvious one here.
