you didn't see the ones on the 101

you seemed surprised at my tears
when you said you loved me
each time is like the first
musical words, beauty in the air
hearing those words from you
is a reassuring caress
a supportive embrace
"you're doing all right," they say
"it's all been worth it," they say
"everything turns out all right in the end," they say
when i hear "i love you" whispered in my ear
i hear you telling me that it's okay for grownups
to believe in happy endings
