fif

we all know that fear is failure

but what of fear of wasting time?

do i undergo a long long (possibly long long long long) term endeavor with only a small chance of success? and if my reason for not doing so is the small chance of success, have i failed because of fear, or have i simply avoided wasting precious time?

How long is 1 "long"? Also, does "long long long long" translate into 4(long) or (long)^4?

But seriously ...

If you succeed, will it have been worth all that time?

And if you don't, will it be a complete failure, or will you have gotten other things out of it along the way?

1 "long" may be as long as a lifetime. i guess that means that more than 1 "long" is redundant, and there's really no need to go into long calculus ;)

the second question is easier to answer: most likely i'll get other stuff along the way. good stuff? stuff that makes it worth the time? maybe. i could probably get most/all of that good stuff easier elsewhere.

and the second: yes. but to make it worth the time, i may have to become something that i find both silly and disturbing. of course, by then i won't mind.

you've probably got a good guess what i'm talking about, even though i'm talking in riddles ;)

Does that mean you want me to guess, or you don't want me to guess?

when have i ever wanted you to not guess? :)

Isn't it easier just to tell me? Blog 20 questions is sooo tedious!

i always like a good transparency check. tell you what: 1 guess, then if you're wrong, i'll spell it out. but i doubt you'll be wrong...

Especially 'cause you want me to guess, I will guess that it has something to do with me.

I'm so vain, I probably think this post is about me
I'm so vain, I’ll bet I think this song is about me
Don’t I? don’t I?

Now watch me be wrong. But that's okay, 'cause then you'll spell it out!

Hey, it filtered out my HTML tags. :-/

And I can't go back to fix a typo.
song ==> post
Bam!

- which html tags? MT forces me to explicitly allow tags... you must have been using something obscure, eh?

- yay, i'm not 100% transparent! nothin to do with you, though now i really must know what you were thinking ;)

- i was wondering if i should join my local synagogue and/or become a rabbi. leaning heavily toward "no" on both. as i said the other day, becoming a rabbi is a hell of a way to find out i'm an atheist.

- I was trying to italicize!

- I at least got to misquote a song, and misquote myself misquoting it.

- It'd be a darned good reason to learn da heeb, yo.

italics

right then, now that the italics are fixed, i'll point out that you avoided my "now i really must know".

I should italicize, since I'm quoting myself.

you avoided my now i really must know

actually, it's not a reason but a method to learn da heeb, oy!

Indeed, I avoided the now I really must know.

There was nothing said beforehand that if I misguessed I'd have to tell you what it was, only that you'd tell me what you were talking about.

I suppose I cheated by not actually guessing. I sort of just inquired about a general category.

Too late to go back and change the rules now!

i see... so you're saying you cheated to get my answer, and now won't expound on your cheat-answer?

booooo!

Precisely!

I believe you can apply rule #9 to this one. ;)

considering the increasing frequency with which i get burned by #9, perhaps it needs to be promoted.
